The Nile is the longest river in the world, at over 4,000 miles, and flows through a number of African countries. However, it is the section which flows through Egypt which is popular for visiting many of the ancient sites which are open to the public. Most Nile cruises are 7 nights in duration, and go from Luxor to Aswan and back, although some boats offer 3 or 4 night cruises. On certain dates during the year you are able to cruise all the way from Cairo to Aswan, or Aswan to Cairo, but not many boats offer this itinerary. A really relaxing way to cruise the Nile is on a Dahabiyya, which holds just 12 to 16 passengers, so call me for more details.
On the 7 night cruise you will have at least 10 excursions in the price you pay, including places such as the Valley of the Kings, the Temples of Luxor and Karnak, the Colossi of Memnon and the Aswan High Dam. You can extend your holiday by adding a hotel either pre or post cruise, in Luxor, a Red Sea Resort or Cairo. While in Cairo you would be able to book excursions to the Pyramids, the Sphinx and the Egyptian Museum.
Some of the companies which offer Nile cruises include Discover Egypt, Uniworld, Red Sea Holidays, Cyplon Holidays, Kuoni, Saga,
Riviera Travel, Titan Travel, Titan Uniworld, Travelsphere, and Cox & Kings
