MSC Cruises is going to renovate their 4 Lirica Class ships, over the next 2 years, in what they are calling a ‘renaissance programme’. The work will entail ‘stretching’ the ships from a length of 251m, and weighing 60,000 tons, to 275m and weighing 65,000 tons.
The additional new features on the ships will include 193 new passenger cabins (and 59 crew cabins), a new water park, more entertainment options and additional shops and boutiques.
The work will be carried out by the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, and the timetable for the work is as follows.
• MSC Armonia: 31 August to 17 November 2014
• MSC Sinfonia: 12 January to 16 March 2015
• MSC Opera: 2 May to 4 July 2015
• MSC Lirica: 31 August to 9 November 2015
MSC Opera has been operating summer cruises out of Southampton for a couple of years, but it has been confirmed that MSC Cruises will not operate any cruises out of the UK in 2015.
